The management of Sergoit Golf and Wildlife resort have refuted claims that the Ksh 40 billion investment project has been hijacked by politicians.

Acting CEO Francis Kollum said the project is on course and attributed the delays to bureaucracy by the Government state agencies.

He said various state agencies took long to clear some of the projects resulting to the delays and opposed that the project was now controlled by top brass politicians in the county.

Kollum said they were caught by surprise when they discovered that most of the Government agencies and the Uasin Gishu County Government took long to clear them.

He said the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) took over a year to have them approved to go on with the construction.

“NEMA took over 18 months to have us cleared.” said Kollum.

He said the same scenario was also witnessed with the Government agencies of Ministry of water and lands.

Besides Government agencies, Kollum said there was also a delay in processing of the master-plan of the entire project.

He observed that it was as a result of the delays and lack of title deeds of all the plots, that they chose to initially suspend the sale of 627 plots of the first phase of the project.

“We decided to just receive deposits of the plots and wait until we have cleared everything so as to receive full payments from investors.” he said.

He said the have only received deposits of 35 investors who he said were all locals and no politician had invested In the project.

The Sergoit Golf and Wildlife resort Acting Director was reacting to allegations that some prominent politicians in the country had hijacked the project.

He said the construction of the Gate House is complete while the roads and golf course was currently being constructed.

The ground-breaking of the project was done in October 2012 and was expected to be ready by 2016. However, the delays being witnessed currently have made the project doubtful.

The project which is dubbed “sports city” when complete will be the first private city conceptualized around the theme of sports in what is seen as a step towards cementing North Rift’s long-standing brand as a major athletic hub in the country.

The proposed Sergoit Golf and Wildlife resort sits on 3,000 acres of land formerly used for ranching. It will accommodate 2,000 villas, three golf courses, a five-star hotel, a shopping mall and retail space, a hospital and an airstrip.
