Oscar Sudy: From Matatu Tout to Shrewd Political Schemer

For his ambition and political scheming,Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudy is like a cargo train in  full trottle.Those who care to notice take precautions, but for some, who underestimate his detrermination and speed, risk getting run over.

Sudy has emerged as one of the Youthful power brokers in North Rift and is among Deputy President William Ruto’s closest allies in the region.

His Kapsaret constituency which was carved from the larger Eldoret South is cosmopolitan but interestingly Sudy was elected the area MP with ease.

Sudy who has been nick named Sonko – a sheng version for a moneyed man, was a powerful chief campaigner who helped two former area MPs, David Koros and Peris Siman, to win elections.He has however managed in the most unlikely manner to graduate from a political advisor to a legislator.

Sudy, often dogged with allegations of dishing out handouts, may have started out from humble beginnings as a tout, but has amassed considerable wealth since then.

A scheming and highly calculative politician,he has built up popularity with the man on the street by playing his humble background.He resonates well with the ordinary man,he can relate to their daily struggles unlike the majority of the political leaders in the region who are seen as elitist.

Barely two years in Parliament, the politician has won the hearts of a sizeable number of legislators to his side evident from two successive Harambees held in his constituency where nearly all legislators from Rift Valley were in attendance , a stunt no one else can easily pull.

Within the said time, his political outfit has outpaced other politicians in the North Rift region.This is in respect of the two succesive harambees that large sums of money were raised.

Charismatic, articulate, hardworking, ambitious and extremely calculative sums up Sudy’s character.These are the very attributes that Sudy used in his bid to outmuscle his political opponents.

In Uasin Gishu County Politics he is at the centre of attraction because he boasts of a huge euphoric following and has the ear of the Deputy President,who sees his effective and forcefulness in political campaign as well as command of numbers.

In the public perception, however, Sudy comes with a baggage of having no basic education,a claim no one has proved yet.However his political influence has continued to stretch by the day, but sceptical rivals who term him illiterate have opted to look the other way. In fact,the biggest folly of challengers is to underestimate him.

Although he his perceived as illiterate and arrogant one must give credit to Sudy for being a forceful political campaigner who you can only ignore at your own peril.
