Is “Mr Fix It” (Mark Too) back to his spurned colleagues?

Business magnate, political wheeler-dealer, Mr Fix It, mediator and charmer extraordinaire, famously known as Bwana Dawa  is remembered as the man who stepped down from his nominated seat in 2001 to pave way for Uhuru Kenyatta‘s entry into parliament.

Mark Kiptarbei Too was the man behind the shenanigans, power play and power games that dominated President Daniel Arap Moi’s State House in his 24 years Nyayo era.

It is said that in1979, British billionaire and wheeler-dealer par excellence, Tiny Rowland, then principle shareholder of the multinational Lonrho Company, was looking for someone to appoint as his regional point man based in Nairobi.

His criteria for the job was simple, all he needed was someone with political contacts at the highest level of politics. Someone who could gain access to the country’s Head of State with just a single phone call.

So one time when Rowland had a meeting with Mark Too, then, by the look of things just a humble and apparently nondescript chairman of Nandi KANU branch ,Rowland explained to Mark Too the kind of a person he was looking for to spearhead Lonrho’s business interests in Kenya and Eastern Africa.

The Lonrho chief also revealed to Mark Too the lucrative perks that would come with the job. After listening carefully  Mark Too calmly walked to the hotel phone booth,picked the handset, gave his name and asked the operator to connect him to State House to speak to the President.

Within a few minutes, Mark Too had President Moi on the line. Mark Too was hired by the Lonrho chief there and then.

Mark Too has lately been photographed severally with the Deputy President William Ruto and has been prominently present in almost all public function  President Uhuru Kenyatta has had.

In his heydays, Mark Too was literally and figuratively just one phone call away from the nerve centre of power.Mark Too was the political “Mr. Fix It” of the Nyayo era.

He networked for President Moi in dark political corners where no one else could have dared. He was the go-to-person when you needed to catch the President’s ear and attention.

Mark Too earned the nickname “Bwana Dawa” in political circles which loosely translates to, the Political Medicine Man. It was a political moniker the former Moi’s right hand man cherished and often flaunted.

Mark Too was known for his knack to accomplish the most arduous political tasks, albeit often using rather unorthodox methods which is often the nature of politics.

President Uhuru owes Mark Too. He is where he is for the sacrifice Mark Too made to bring him to political limelight.

Is Mark Too finally being rewarded for the sacrifice he made years ago? There is something much more than meets the eye in Mark Too’s appearance with the big two. But what was or what is it? Does Mark Too still have the political clout of yesteryears?

Is Mark Too replaying the magic cards he used to play during President Moi’s reign? It seems Mark Too still has some of his political magic left to have caught the eye of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.

Known for his political prowess Mark Too who is notorious for using both orthodox and unorthodox political tactics is currently doing the bidding for Jubilee Government. He has been on the forefront in the fight against calls for a referendum. “Mr Fix It” is back!
