200 Alabama Bicentennial

Celebrating Alabama’s 200th birthday2017 2018 2019

In celebration of Alabama’s bicentennial in 2019, the Alabama Department of Archives and History will present a special exhibition of the documents that have defined our government over the last 200 years. After a year-long conservation effort, Alabama’s six constitutions and the 1861 ordinance of secession, which declared Alabama’s separation from the Union on the eve of the Civil War, will be on view to the public, first at the Huntsville Museum of Art and then at the Museum of Alabama at the Department of Archives and History.

This exhibition provides a rare look at Alabama’s foundational documents, the men and women who shaped them, and insight into the ongoing efforts to preserve them for future generations.

For more information about the exhibit at the Huntsvlle Museum of Art can be found here.

The Huntsville Museum of Art is happy to allow the public to view these historic pieces for free on the opening day, Sunday, June 30, 2019 from 12-5 p.m.
