  • “Free State of Winston - Incident at Looney’s Tavern” Point of View Poster

This activity would be part of the discussion of Alabama's participation in the Secession Convention. It explains how people of Winston County elected Christopher Sheets to represent them at the Alabama Secession convention. They did not want to be part of either side during the Civil War and their actions and declarations were made at a meeting at Looney's Tavern where they declared themselves as "The Free State of Winston."
