Trade Development Manager Peter Biwott Urges Youth Into Business

Kenya Chamber of Commerce and Industry Trade Development Manager Mr. Peter Biwott has told Uasin Gishu residents not to shy away from venturing into income generating projects as a means to improve their living standards.

Mr. Biwott asked youth in the county to be fearless, take challenges and convert them to opportunities of job creation and income generation.

He said with the many business opportunities put in place by the Chamber of commerce, every youth in the county should ensure they venture into business and multiplying their resources to uplift the financial capabilities.

“More than ever before, the revamped Chamber of Commerce has put in place an enabling environment for youth to do business I welcome you to come up with ideas that will move this country forward,” he said.

Mr. Biwott was speaking at the Kapkius village in Soy Constituency when he presided over a farewell party for a student joining Masinde Muliro University to study electrical engineering.

Mr. Biwott at the same time implored the Senate to enact a law to make it mandatory for Counties to allocate 10 per cent of their budgets to agricultural support to farmers on top of the overall allocations to the sector.

“The agricultural support would enhance productivity and ensure farmers get profits and view farming as a business,”said Mr. Biwott.

He said that way, farming will enhance potential for business, and inturn improve the living standards of the wananchi.

He lauded the new constitution dispensation for giving youth equal opportunities in leadership and public appointments.

He also called upon all political leaders in the County to put aside their political differences and instead work together to bring development.He said time for politics is over and instead they should focus on development issues.He urged all leaders to account for the resources which have already been allocated to them before asking for more.

“ Our leaders should stop engaging in endless quarrels and supremacy wars and instead work together in solving the problems facing wananchi,” said Mr. Biwott.

On the calls for a referendum Mr. Biwott said the agitation was untimely and unnecessary at the moment and asked Governors to instead seek the support of the National Assembly to draft a law that increases allocations to counties to more than 40 per cent.

Mr. Biwott said though he was in support of more money at the grassroots a referendum was not the solution at the moment.
